Saint Barbara Church
Just a 45 minute train ride and a 20 minute walk out of Graz, lies the most bizarre and beautiful building you will probably ever see in your life. St. Barbara’s Kirche is a true marvel, redesigned by the Austrian artist, architect and genius Friedensreich Hundertwasser in the late 1980s shortly before his death. The interior is relatively sparse, except for the remarkable crucifix behind the altar. The drama is in the exterior, it’s all about brilliant color, joyous movement and rich symbolism. It’s wild yet serene, you won’t be able to take your eyes off of it and you’ll never be able to forget it.
