Eel Pie Island
Eel Pie Island in the middle of the Thames at Twickenham has music history stemmed back from the 20's. Once a venue for ballroom dancing it became a hotel which hosted jazz sessions and later became the spot for jazz and later rock groups. During the late 50's to 60's, big bands made their debuts here from the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Genesis, The Who and many more. The island has a cluster of rickety old houses and ramshackled gardens owing to its zany feel either side of the only lane running right through to the island. There is nothing of any interest to see here, per se, but the affiliated museum will certainly give you the facts and figures of the island's history in more detail. #history #free
