The statue of Jan Skácel
Jan Skácel was a famous Czech poet who died in Brno right at the end of the communist era. Consequently, in 2016 - when a lot of statues and sculptures popped up around Brno - his face is depicted on a hill in Špilberg Park, flanked by Brno Castle. Steel hollow rods set on a limestone pedestal are welded together to from a concave mould of the poet himself. It reminds me of a static version of the moving face of Franz Kafka in Prague. One extraordinary fact I learned of this model only after my visit is how at a certain angle you can gaze though the rods and see how Brno once was through his very eyes.
