This excellent maritime museum, which covers New York’s history as a port city, contains intriguing displays of old photos and maps, various nautical tools, model ships and even tattoo paraphernalia. But your little mateys will probably get most excited hopping aboard the cool old ships docked outside. Between the end of May and the beginning of October, you can even book a sail around the harbor on a classic schooner. Ahoy!
