With only one major exception, Brooklyn is not awash in your standard art museums, that’s Manhattan’s purview. But the borough more than makes up for its dearth of museums with its exciting assemblage of private art galleries, frequent art fairs, artist’s collectives, public sculpture and monuments and above all, its magnificent street art. The scene is definitely more experimental here but there are enough works to also satisfy those with more traditional tastes. No true art lover will ever feel deprived during a visit to Brooklyn. Not to mention, with a little planning, every place on this list can be visited for free.
