Autumn in Jizera Mountians, a stones throw from Liberec, is picture postcard beauteous. This year it's surprisingly warm for mid-October. Butterscotch yellow leaves flake off the deciduous trees as I lie under the boughs of tawny, brown foliage and boulders in temperatures of a score and more. There's not the crispness of fall, customary in previous years but that of an emerging spring in April. The red route north from Desnà takes you through town and past a beautifully restored 18th century villa. Hills envelope the town like a pretty, striped yellow and green blanket.
