Kazakhstan is a land of vast open spaces and remote remnants of the Silk Road. The cities are aggressive and there are shades of grandeur within their confines. Getting out into the emptiness is a whole different story. Then it's just a case of marrying yourself with windy steppes and wandering dromedaries.
